Press release: VGD and Finvision announce merger to create a new leading Belgian accountancy, audit and advisory firm, backed by Sofindev

ASSE / WEMMEL, Belgium, July 16th 2026 – Today, Finvision and VGD, two well-established names in the Belgian accountancy, audit and advisory market, announced their intention to merge. By strategically joining forces, the newly combined firm will become one of the largest Belgian-owned firms in the mid-market segment. "We are deliberately bringing together the expertise of both organisations to broaden and deepen our service offering," the new group stated. The combined organisation is expected to generate a revenue exceeding €100 million in 2026 and will employ approximately 750 professionals across a network of 21 offices throughout Belgium. Belgian investment company Sofindev will join as a long-term strategic partner to support the new organisation's ambitious growth plans.
A people first culture as the foundation
The accountancy, audit and advisory sector is evolving rapidly, driven by digitalisation, artificial intelligence and increasingly complex regulation. While market consolidation has largely been driven by acquisitions, VGD and Finvision have consciously chosen a full merger between equals.
The merger is built on a strong alignment of values. Both organisations are recognised as people-focused employers. Although the combined organisation will become one of the largest players in the Belgian market, size is not the objective in itself.
"Our ambition is to build an organisation that combines the strengths of a larger firm with the warmth, accessibility and entrepreneurial spirit that both our clients and our people value today," said Koen De Staercke and Dieter Engelen, current CEOs of VGD and Finvision respectively.
Best of both worlds: a natural next step
The merger will enable the new group to offer clients broader and deeper expertise. Both organisations already share strong capabilities in Accountancy, Audit & Assurance, Tax & Legal, CFO Services, Transaction Advisory and Sustainability. VGD contributes additional expertise in HR Advisory, Estate Planning and Dealmaking, while Finvision strengthens the combined offering through its expertise in IFRS & Consolidation, Outsourcing, Risk Management, as well as its proprietary technology platform Finticx.
The leadership structure of the new organisation reflects this "best of both" principle. Koen De Staercke will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer, leading the day-to-day operations of the merged organisation. Dieter Engelen will become Executive Chairman of the Board, which will consist of an equal number of representatives from both former organisations.
"Over the past decade, our paths have crossed on many occasions and mutual professional respect has always been there. Today feels like the right moment to take this next step together. Previous waves of consolidation in the market have shown how challenging organizational integration can be. Because this merger brings together two organisations with highly compatible cultures and values, we avoid much of that complexity. This allows us to remain fully focused on our clients. We are convinced that, together, we will become a leading partner in Belgium's mid-market segment," said Koen De Staercke.
Accelerating growth with Sofindev
Both firms have delivered strong performances in recent years, achieving annual organic growth of approximately 10%. VGD generated annual revenues of almost €64 million in 2025, while Finvision recorded revenues of nearly €32 million. The merged organisation expects to exceed €100 million in revenue during 2026.
To facilitate the merger and support future growth, Belgian investment company Sofindev will join as an equal strategic partner.
"The market itself continues to grow, but even greater potential lies in the complementary strengths of our two organisations. Additional external capital allows us to unlock and accelerate that potential. We deliberately chose Sofindev because of its strong local roots, its long-term focus on sustainable value creation and its entrepreneurial approach. Their investment also brings a valuable network and an experienced strategic sparring partner," said Dieter Engelen.
No further financial details of the transaction will be disclosed.
Technology supporting people
Alongside supporting the integration and future growth of the organisation, the additional investment will accelerate existing initiatives in technology and artificial intelligence. However, personal relationships will remain at the heart of the firm's approach.
"We are building a high-performing and future-proof organisation where technology and data-driven insights enhance rather than replace human expertise. This enables our professionals to spend more time where they create the greatest value: maintaining close relationships with clients and providing high-quality advice. These have always been defining strengths of both VGD & Finvision and will remain so after the merger," added Koen De Staercke.
The combined organisation will retain a strong local presence throughout Belgium. VGD currently operates 13 offices, while Finvision has 8 locations."There will always be an office close to our clients," said Koen De Staercke. Where both organisations currently operate in the same location, the long-term intention is to combine these offices into larger, strengthened regional hubs. Given the sector's continued growth and the significant number of open vacancies, the merger is also expected to create further opportunities for recruitment.
A combined organisation of nearly 750 people and a new brand identity
The proposed merger remains subject to approval by the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA). Until completion of the transaction, both organisations will continue to operate independently under their existing leadership teams and brand names.
VGD currently employs around 460 people, while Finvision has approximately 250 employees. A further 65 new colleagues are expected to join in September, bringing the combined workforce to more than 750 professionals. A carefully designed integration programme will guide the coming together of both organisations. A key priority will be the development of a unique, shared identity. The new organisation aims to remain a workplace where people can continue to grow and develop, while maintaining its recognised 'Best Workplace' and 'Great Place to Work' credentials.
"We will continue to invest in a warm, inspiring working environment where talented people are given every opportunity to develop. Only by enabling our people to grow can we continue to help our clients navigate their challenges and strengthen their businesses," concluded Dieter Engelen.
Behind the scenes, work has already begun on a completely new unified brand identity. The launch of the new company name and corporate brand is expected in early 2027.
